ECM Re-Flash

8,500 miles at Re-Flash

i've been reading a lot about harley ecm. to be honest, this is the first efi motorcycle for me. so harley or not, i have a lot of learning. as a part of learning, i read a quite bit of different online forums and try to learn as much as possible.

i had a few concerns about my bike - remember, i bought it used... 3 years old and 5000 miles on it.
  1. it stumbles in the morning regardless of the outside temperature. it stars right off, then about 60 seconds into it, it misses. it tries to die for a half second or so, then it picks up again. (actually, the engine stopped a few times.) after warming it up for 2 min. or so, it won't stumble anymore. it used to stumbel 2-4 times during the warm up. after work, it would stumble as well during the warm up.
  2. it used to get 42-43mpg for my commute. my best commuting mpg was 48 mpg (just once in 3 months) and the worst was 37 mpg (3-4 times during last 3 months).
so i took the bike to the dealer and had them re-flash the ecm. (they charged me $0.00!! San Jacinto Harley is THE BEST!!!) so here is the result.
  1. it has not stumbled last two cold start ups.
  2. i went for 115 mile cruise - mixture of highway and city riding. after the ride, it took 2.2 gallons of gas. that is 52 mpg. the fuel mileage has improved greatly.
this is still preliminary. i don't have enough data to convince me, yet. but it looks good for now.

here is a pic of my saturday morning ride.
