GAS - FUEL - PETROL - or whatever you want to call it

2003 BMW F650CS is notorious with surges and stalls.  Many owners discuss its fix to be the Iridium Spark Plug.  BUT I think it goes a little bit deeper than that.  I have noticed a great bit of difference in what fuel I use in the bike.

Race Track fuel - still stalls often, but no more surging
Chevron - stalls rarely and no surging at all

In both case, I am using 87 Octane - as most of the Scarver riders suggests.  But I also noticed in both fuel type, My MPG has decreased.  It was 62mpg this morning - the second worst mpg.

I am curious if I need to do some comparing on different Octane ratings as well, after all the manual recommends the 91+ ratings.
