Got the bike back in my garage.  Put a trickle charger on the battery overnight and next morning, it started just fine.  BUT at 3,000 rpm, it was only getting 11.5 volts.

It's time to dig into the alternator.




It is the original alternator.  That means it is 17 years old, in 1996 I was still living in Waco, TX.




The brush on the back side is stuck.




Brushes are not at the minimum height of 1.8 mm.  I will be ordering the pair this week.
