yup, i am a bit late in changing the primary oil. but better late than never, right? primary chain was also had extra slack, so i adjusted that. that took me about 30 min.
BUT the bigger task was to fix the rocker box oil leak. it was seeping since about 9000 miles through the bottom of the rocker box. but it started to get pretty bad after my west texas trip. i was going to wait until the labor day weekend, but it doesn't look like it could wait.
took the seat off, took the tank off, took the main fuse out, took the spark plugs out... then i started with the rear jug. the main problem with the rear jug was the plastic wire organizer on the back bone. it was in there with with the double sided tape. so i had to peel it off to get the rocker box off.
just followed the manual. it gives pretty good instruction. one interesting thing was the both front and rear cylinder, the rocker box was stuck on the cylinder, after taking all the bolts out, i had to pry the rocker box off the cylinder.
the trick in working with the front cylinder was to deal with the coils and again the plastic wire organizer. i had to loosen every thing so that i can pull the cover and the box off.
i used the high temp gasket sealer. i hope this helps. i really don't want to do this every 10,000 miles.
lastly, the dealer quoted $500 for this job. one indy in town quoted me $300. so yeah, it took me all day saturday, but i saved a lot of money.
here you only see my bottom rocker box gasket, but i also changed the upper one. each jug gets a large parameter gasket and small rectangular center gasket.
