Why did the speedometer gear stop working on my Goldwing 1500? Because the plastic/nylon gear wear out and get shredded into the metal gear.
See three small pieces at the bottom of above picture? That's what I retrieved from the gear housing.
They get stuck inside the housing. You see the gear at the top of the housing (picture above). That causes the gear not to spin and shred the plastic gear completely.
